Turning 40 is certainly a milestone! I’m almost there, I’ve turned 39 six times now…I’m bound to get to 40 sooner or later. When I do, I’d like for it to be special.
Depending on where someone is in their life, turning 40 can either be a genuinely embraced milestone or viewed negatively and can result in a mid-life crisis. Either perspective is common and the people in the life of the person who is turning 40 usually find a way to celebrate more elaborately than other birthdays and need special 40th birthday invitations.
Sometimes, a significant other will plan a trip somewhere the person turning 40 has always wanted to visit. This is a kind gesture but more often, a party of some kind will be planned so that everyone in the person’s life is able to take part in the celebration.
In America, event planners and party stores will tell you how seriously 40th birthday parties are taken. People will plan months and months in advance and if the party is a surprise, more time is taken to reassure that everyone knows the deal.
Theme Ideas
Many party stores have a special section for 40th birthday invitations and party supplies. This may seem odd, but the themes incorporated with turning 40 vary and would not make sense if mixed in with all other party invitations. For example, you would not want a tall top hat that says “Over the Hill” mixed in with clown-shaped party plates for children.
One theme that is popular is a R.I.P. This goes with the idea that when someone turns 40, their life is over. This of course is a joke, but people really get into it and the themed 40th birthday invitations include: black balloons, paper vultures that hang from the ceiling, tombstone centerpieces, party cups shaped like urns and all sorts of head wear.
Another theme is to act like the person turning 40 is really turning 80, that is, acting as if they are so old they are now a senior citizen. The 40th birthday invitations and supplies for this theme include: a bright colored cane accessorized with a horn, fake eyeglasses and dentures, whoopee cushions and hats.
Embarrassment is Part of the Fun
Another addition people generally find hilarious is to employ either a male or female dancer for the evening to dance for the guest of honor. This is more of a prank and is not to induce pleasure but instead give everyone a chance to tease the person turning 40.
Surprise parties are usually very fun because the guest of honor has no idea they are happening. Since some people do not enjoy getting older, they would like their birthdays to pass by and have people forget or neglect to acknowledge them.
Whatever you choose to do, the birthday celebrity will surely appreciate the efforts you’ve gone through to make their 40th birthday a special event to remember. You can find your themed party invitations at your local party supply store or find some online at BuyCostumes.com
Have fun!
